A renowned actor, who is mentioned to have had a difficult childhood in a Catholic school due to World War II. However, he managed to find his way in different trades such as photographer, journalist, and radio antenna operator.
Later, he began studying at Theater Academies, thus starting his career in the artistic world. After several minor roles, he landed the role that would define his career: portraying the English Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia.
Following this success, he participated in films such as: "How to Steal a Million," "Man of La Mancha," "Caligula," and "Troy," working alongside actresses and actors such as Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Brad Pitt, Helen Mirren, and Anthony Quinn. His last appearances were in the TV series "The Tudors" and the film "For Greater Glory" (Cristiada).
He was nominated eight times for an Oscar, winning an Honorary Award in 2003 for his lifetime achievements.
